ASC Meeting 2024: Charting a Course for Ocean Governance

The event FLOW that happened on January 23rd, within the scope of the Atlantic Strategy, discussed floating offshore wind knowledge, national plans, and targets for European Atlantic country policy makers.

This event was the first national joint event connecting the Atlantic Action plan and the WestMED initiative. Beyond recalling the ministerial declarations which were endorsed in 2023, it was the opportunity to declare the Presidency of the AAP for France and to share the message of the Portuguese Presidency for Westmed to the attendance which was mainly composed of national stakeholders.

Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) has announced funding for eight research infrastructure projects focused on transforming various sectors. The selected projects are focused on issues such as energy optimisation, AI, quantum research, biomolecule detection and more. Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris, TD, said the funding will support “pioneering research”.

To foster a sustainable, decarbonised and thriving blue economy in the Atlantic region, the new French Presidency of the Atlantic Maritime Strategy highlights three key priorities that underscore the Ministerial Porto Declaration[1] commitment to environmental stewardship, stakeholder community involvement, and international cooperation.
