Ireland’s 2025 Presidency of the EU Atlantic Strategy: Strengthening Cooperation for a Sustainable Future
Dear Atlantic Strategy community, with great pride, Ireland assumes the Presidency of the EU Atlantic Strategy for 2025, where we are committed to driving forward an ambitious and inclusive agenda which can strengthen cooperation among Atlantic Member States and deliver tangible benefits for our coastal communities, the blue economy and ecosystems.
The Atlantic Strategy plays a vital role in enhancing the sustainable development of the Atlantic region, fostering innovation, and ensuring that our shared marine resources are protected for future generations. Under Ireland's leadership, we will focus on key priorities such as inclusivity from the regional to the international, seeking synergies with other sea basin initiatives and supporting sustainable development through effective marine spatial planning.
Our Presidency will emphasize collaboration between Governments, businesses, researchers, and coastal communities to harness the full potential of the Atlantic area. A core objective of our term will be to strengthen engagement with local stakeholders, ensuring that regional voices are heard and that EU policies deliver real impact on the ground. We also recognise the importance of transatlantic cooperation and will seek to deepen our international partnerships in advancing a sustainable and prosperous Atlantic region such as through the All Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance.
Throughout 2025, Ireland will host events, such as at European Maritime Day in Cork in May and the Annual Stakeholder Platform Conference in November. We invite all stakeholders to actively participate, share ideas, and collaborate in building a more resilient and forward-looking Atlantic region at these events. We are enthusiastic for our Atlantic future and look forward to your support for 2025.
The Irish Presidency
