European Commission Launches New Call for Proposals to Advance Scientific Knowledge in Fisheries Management

The European Commission has issued a new call for proposals aimed at enhancing the scientific knowledge needed to inform management decisions under the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). This call, funded by the EMFAF as part of the 2024-2025 Work Programme, has a budget of €2.6 million.

Objective

This funding opportunity seeks to support projects that strengthen the scientific basis for developing policies for fisheries conservation and management. The selected projects are expected to contribute significantly to the knowledge available to the EU and global fisheries science communities, ultimately supporting science-based conservation and management measures under the CFP.

Eligible Actions

The types of activities that will be supported under this call include, but are not limited to:

  • Collection and processing of field samples or data not covered by national data collection programmes.

  • Harmonization of protocols and development of improved methodologies.

  • Trials, meta-analyses, modeling, and new methodologies for stock assessment.

  • Data validation and preparation to enhance model accuracy.

  • Expanding current databases and linking existing initiatives.

  • Building networking activities between EU scientists and/or the EU fishing industry.

Impact

Projects funded under this call are expected to directly contribute to more informed, science-based policy design for fisheries management and conservation in the EU and beyond.
