
The first transnational call under the MarLEN (Maritime Low Emission Network) initiative—funded by Horizon Europe—is now open! This is your chance to turn your ideas into real-world impact, from early-stage R&D to full-scale deployment.
What is it about?
The call supports research and innovation projects focused on zero-emission waterborne transport technologies, with backing from 13 funding bodies across 9 European countries.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be based in one of the participating countries: Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Türkiye, or the UK. Others may join if they secure national funding and consortium approval.
Requirements:
At least two partners from different countries
Industry participation is mandatory
SME involvement is strongly encouraged
What can be funded?
Projects aligned with the Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) goals, including:
Sustainable fuels
Electrification
Energy efficiency
Ship design & retrofitting
Digitalisation
Port infrastructure
Focus Areas:
MPA1: Early-stage concepts & industrial research
MPA2: Experimental development & innovation
MPA3: Demonstration with end-user involvement
Funding available: Up to €8 million (subject to national rules)
Deadline: 30 September 2025
Project duration: Up to 36 months
