The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO has launched the Call for Decade Actions No. 09/2025, inviting global stakeholders to contribute transformative initiatives to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030).
This call is a unique opportunity for researchers, institutions, governments, and civil society to propose Programmes, Projects, and Contributions that align with the Ocean Decade’s vision: “The science we need for the ocean we want.”

What’s Being Solicited?
Decade Projects that contribute to one of 30 endorsed Decade Programmes.
Decade Contributions offering in-kind or financial support to the Ocean Decade or its Actions.
Initiatives that foster scientific cooperation in the Southern Ocean and Antarctic, with links to the upcoming Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025–2034) and International Polar Year (2032–2033).
Why Participate?
This call supports the implementation of science-based solutions to address pressing ocean challenges, enhance decision-making, and promote sustainable development. It builds on the priorities of the Barcelona Statement and encourages co-designed, inclusive, and impactful ocean science.
Interested parties are encouraged to submit their proposals as early as possible and consult the relevant guidance documents and coordination structures.
