The FLAD Atlantic Junior Award, launched by the Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento (FLAD) in partnership with Ciência Viva, is back for its 5th edition. This initiative aims to promote scientific and technological culture among young students by highlighting the Atlantic Ocean as a vital natural system and its role in global sustainability.
The competition encourages creativity and teamwork, inviting students to develop innovative projects that address key challenges such as:

Innovative vessels – e.g., solar-powered remote-controlled vehicles
Pollution mitigation technologies
Solutions for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem regeneration
Participants will present their prototypes, models, or products in a public showcase, including a practical demonstration and poster presentation. The top three projects will receive prizes to support further technological development in schools:
1st Prize: Trip to the USA + €2,000 for equipment
2nd Prize: €2,000
3rd Prize: €1,500
This award not only fosters innovation but also empowers the next generation to contribute to ocean sustainability and the Blue Economy.
