The Atlantic Project Awards 2024 ceremony was held during the 11th Atlantic Stakeholder Platform Conference in Bordeaux on November 22, 2024. These prestigious awards, presented by the Atlantic Steering Committee members and the European Commission, celebrate outstanding success stories achieved by projects within the geographical area covered by the Atlantic Strategy.
The winners of the 2024 awards in each category are:
🏆 Atlantic Ports: HYDEA
The main objective of HYDEA is to assess, develop and promote the use of technologies based on green hydrogen from renewable energy sources (like marine energy) in ports in the Atlantic Area.
🏆 Blue Skills and Ocean Literacy: Blueskilling Innovation
Blueskilling Innovation will deliver the necessary skills to boost blue innovation, strengthen industrial competitiveness and accelerate the deployment of marine renewables and green shipping technology in the Atlantic Area.
🏆 Marine Renewable Energy: FLORA
The FLORA Ocean station is an automated, modular and self-powered platform that enables accurate, continuous, and cost-efficient bird and biodiversity data acquisition for the offshore wind sector.
🏆 Healthy Oceans and Resilient Coasts: C-FAARER and MSP-OR
C-FAARER is an EU Ocean Mission funded Coordination and Support Action (CSA) project, running for two years from June 2023. The project is supporting marine innovators, entrepreneurs, and other pioneers in the Atlantic and Arctic Sea basin in transitioning towards the use of community-driven sustainable business models for regenerative ocean farming.
The MSP-OR Project supports national and regional competent authorities in the establishment and adoption of the EU MSP Directive (2014/89/UE), advancing the implementation of the Maritime Spatial Planning processes in the Azores and Madeira (Portugal), Canary Islands (Spain) and French Guiana (France).
🏆 International Cooperation: A-AAGORA
A-AAGORA aims to demonstrate how coastal restoration with nature and people can effectively reduce pressures on coastal areas, strengthen coastal resilience and mitigate climate impact, by applying ecosystem-based management and nature-based solutions in its three demonstration sites (The Troms Arctic Archipelago, Norway; Cork County, Ireland and Centro Region, Portugal).
We will continue to follow these remarkable projects as they progress and deliver impactful results across the Atlantic region. Stay tuned for updates on their success stories and contributions to a sustainable blue economy.
