Charting a Digital Ocean Economy
The National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) will host the 5th Annual Seafarers’ Conference on 19 March 2026 at its campus in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork. This flagship annual event brings together leaders from government, the maritime industry, education, and the wider ocean economy to explore the forces shaping the future of seafaring.
A Focus on Digital Transformation
This year’s theme “Charting a Digital Ocean Economy - Enabled by Skills, Data and Technology” highlights the accelerating technological and digital changes redefining the maritime sector. The panel of discussions will address:
The impact of AI and emerging technologies on the future of seafaring
The role of data as the new ocean currency
The skills required for a digital maritime workforce
What long‑term success looks like for a technology‑enabled ocean economy
Ireland’s strong wind regimes, growing focus on energy security, and the rapid evolution of the blue economy further underscore the importance of investing in maritime skills, technology, and data‑driven capabilities.
The conference will convene representatives from Government Departments, the maritime sector, the supply chain workforce, and training and education institutions. Speakers and attendees will explore how innovation, environmental considerations, and digitalisation can support Ireland’s maritime potential.
