EMD 2026 workshop | Sea Basin Strategies as a tool for reinforced maritime regional cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean

Date:
EMD workshop

The EU Sea Basin Strategies Assistance Mechanism will organise a dedicated workshop entitled “Sea Basin Strategies as a tool for reinforced maritime regional cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean” during European Maritime Day (EMD) 2026, taking place on 21–22 May 2026 in Limassol, Cyprus.

Building on the European Ocean Pact, the workshop will focus on fostering discussion around the challenges and opportunities for enhanced maritime regional cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean. In particular, it will explore the potential added value of developing a Sea Basin Strategy for the region, drawing lessons from existing cooperation frameworks in the Atlantic, Western Mediterranean, Black Sea and North Sea.

Discussions will centre on identifying key regional challenges and potentials that could be addressed through strengthened cooperation, as well as the possible role of sea‑basin approaches in supporting more coherent and effective maritime governance across the Eastern Mediterranean.

The workshop is part of the broader EMD 2026 programme, which brings together policymakers, stakeholders and experts to exchange priorities for Europe’s seas and the sustainable blue economy.
