
The BlueLightS project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Programme, has officially launched its 2nd Call for Blue Challenges/Blue Schools, inviting schools across Europe to submit proposals that promote ocean and water sustainability.
This initiative, part of the broader mission to “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030,” aims to enlighten future generations by integrating ocean literacy into school curricula and fostering a culture of sustainability.
Key Objectives of the Call:
Support innovative educational projects that raise awareness of ocean and water issues.
Strengthen the Network of European Blue Schools (NEBS).
Encourage collaboration through platforms like eTwinning, promoting intercultural learning and a European dimension.
Who Can Apply:
Eligible applicants include public or private schools with legal status and accreditation, offering primary, secondary, or vocational education (up to ISCED level 3) within EU Member States or associated countries.
Project Scope and Topics:
Projects should address themes such as:
Ocean and water literacy
Climate change and marine biodiversity
Sustainable blue economy
Citizen science and youth engagement
Funding and Timeline:
Maximum grant per project: 222 000 EUR
Project duration: 2 to 5 months
Submission deadline: 25.09.2025 17:00 CET
It is expect to fund 75-80 blue challenges. The maximum grant per school is set at 3 000 Euro, with a maximum budget per eligible country based on the table
